This year, Ottawa and other kilt skate communities across Canada are coordinating their events on the same weekend as the first-ever kilt skate in Scotland.

Great Canadian Kilt Skate -- Ottawa

Join us for Ottawa’s 10th Annual Great Canadian Kilt Skate.

You don’t need a kilt. You don’t need to be Scottish. Bring your your inner Scot by wearing a bit of Canada’s favourite colour: tartan!

The first-ever Great Canadian Kilt Skate was held in Ottawa in 2015. Not only does the tradition remain in Ottawa, it has spread across Canada and beyond.

In 2022, Ottawa was named the Kilt Skate Capital of Canada. Help us regain our title in 2024.

And while waiting for the February 18 event at Lansdowne, why not participate in the “Home Edition, where you skate anywhere you like: your community rink, the river you can skate away on, the backyard pond, the Rideau Canal Skateway — anywhere!

The Great Canadian Kilt Skate — Home Edition.

Where: Anywhere where it is healthy and safe for you to skate.

When: December 31-February 28. Ottawa is competing with eight other cities to be named the 2021 Kilt Skate Capital of Canada.

This is the kilt skate that can go ahead even in a pandemic.

“We may have masks on our faces, but our knees will be bare!”

Get on your tartan. Get out on the ice. Stay safe. And send us pictures!
