Montreal Launches Kilt Skate's 10th Season

In 2015, Montreal was one of four Canadian cities that hosted a kilt skate to celebrate the 200th birthday of Canada’s first Prime Minister. In the years since, Montrealers have taken to the ice — outdoors at the Vieux Port, indoors at Verdun Arena, and during Covid, at any ice surface where they could maintain social distance protocols.

This year on January 28, the St. Andrew's Society returned to Verdun to launch the 10th season of the Great Canadian Kilt Skate.

What would a Montreal kilt skate be without pipers and flag bearers…

And enthusiasm…

But most of all, skaters — of all ages and all abilities.

The St. Andrew’s Society of Montreal reports that, of about 90 skaters who showed up at Verdun Arena for the event, some 40 were wearing kilts and tartans.

Congratulations to Dr. Gillian Leitch and her team for another successful kilt skate and thanks for launching us into the 2024 kilt skate season.
